Detailed Guide: South Australia's 2024/25 Skilled Migration Program

The South Australian Government has introduced its skilled migration program for the 2024/25 year, which offers pathways for skilled professionals to live and work in South Australia. With 3,800 nomination spots available, this program is available for those who satisfy one of the four streams below.

Overview of the 2024/25 Skilled Migration Program

The South Australian migration program for 2024/25 provides:

  • 3,000 spots for the Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

  • 800 spots for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)

A total of 464 occupations are available for onshore applicants and 427 occupations for those applying offshore, providing opportunities across various professions.

Four Available Streams

The program accommodates both onshore and offshore applicants:

1. South Australian Graduates (Onshore)

This stream is for international graduates who have completed their studies in South Australia.

  • Qualification Requirements: Completion of a qualification that is consistent with the requirements for their nominated occupation on South Australia’s skilled occupation list. You may have studied partially in another state but at least 75% of the course must have been undertaken in South Australia.

  • Work Experience: Applicants must have been living and working in South Australia for at least 6 months in their nominated occupation or a closely related field, for a minimum 30 hours per week.

2. Outer Regional Skilled Employment (Onshore)

This stream applies to those living and working in South Australia's outer regional areas.

  • Work Experience: Applicants must have lived and worked in an "outer regional area" of South Australia for at least 9 months in their nominated occupation or a related role, at a minimum of 30 hours per week.

  • Eligible Postcodes: the SA government has published the eligible postcodes online.

3. Skilled Employment in South Australia (Onshore)

Applicants who have been living and working in South Australia for at least 12 months, at a minimum 30 hours per week, in their nominated occupation or a related role.

4. Offshore Stream

For skilled professionals residing outside Australia, this stream provides an opportunity to apply from abroad.

  • Work Experience: Applicants require at least 3 years of skilled work experience in the last 5 years in their nominated or a closely related occupation (minimum 20 hours per week). For construction trades, 1 year of skilled work experience within the last 3 years is required.

  • Assessment: EOIs will be evaluated based on factors such as English language ability, years of skilled employment, and EOI points, with specific emphasis on experience for construction trades.

Application Process

The process for applying to the South Australian migration program involves these steps:

  1. Expression of Interest (EOI): Submit via SkillSelect, indicating South Australia as your preferred state.

  2. Registration of Interest (ROI): Complete this step if applying onshore through migration.sa.gov.au. Offshore applicants are not required to submit an ROI.

  3. Invitation: If eligible, you will receive an invitation to apply for state nomination.

  4. Assessment: Your application will be reviewed by South Australia’s Skilled & Business Migration department.

  5. Nomination: Successful applicants will be nominated by South Australia and invited to apply for their visa.
