The Northern Territory Government has introduced its skilled migration program for the 2024/25 year, which offers pathways for skilled professionals to live and work in NT.
1. Onshore Pathways
NT Graduate Stream:
Subclass 190: Must have lived in the NT for at least 6 consecutive months after completing studies on a subclass 485 visa or bridging visa. Completed 2 years of study in NT at a local institution.
Subclass 491: Completion of 2 years of study in the NT and sustained efforts to obtain employment in your nominated occupation.
NT Resident Stream:
Subclass 190: Must have lived in the NT for at least 2 consecutive years with full-time employment in the nominated occupation for at least 2 years before nomination.
Subclass 491: Residency in the NT for 12 consecutive months with 6 months of full-time employment in the nominated occupation.
2. Offshore Pathways (Subclass 491 Only)
Priority Occupation Stream (Currently Closed): Applicants must have a migration skills assessment for an occupation listed on the Northern Territory Offshore Migration Occupations List (NTOMOL).
NT Job Offer Stream: Must have a verifiable job offer from an NT-based business that has been actively operating for at least 12 months.
NT Family Stream: Support from an eligible relative living in NT for at least 12 months is required.
Key Updates and NT DAMA
The NT Designated Area Migration Agreement (NT DAMA) allows NT employers to sponsor overseas workers with concessions to English, TSMIT, age, and work experience requirements.
The GSM program for 2024/25 is open, with offshore applications reopened for the NT Job Offer and NT Family Streams.
